History Repeats Itself

Many many years ago I was a little kid and misbehaving as kids do. My mom, getting frustrated with my behavior, said "Jerusha, will you act your age!"
I came back with "I am!" I was after all acting my age. My problem was that I usually acted much older then my age and thus better behaved. My mom laughed and acknowledged that fact.

So yesterday I'm putting away dishes from the dishwasher and ask Belle to come help put the silverware away, something she knows how to do and does regularly. Well she didn't want too, she wanted to keep drawing. But I insisted. She came stomping in all quiver lipped whining as she put the silverware away "But there are so many! I don't want to put it away!"

I tried a few times telling here there were not that many and to just do it and then she could go back to drawing. She was doing it but at the same time on the verge of tears practically because she didn't want too.

Finally I and said "Belle, stop whining you're acting like a child."

She exhaled in sigh and said "But Mom I AM a child!"

I stopped and just laughed. I gave her a hug and said "Yes you are but you're a very smart child and know better then to whine." She could tell she'd said something that struck a funny bone in me and asked why I was laughing.
I just said "I'm laughing because when I was a little girl I had to remind my mommy that I was a kid sometimes too."
