Today I took Belle to the park after school. We had told Mommy we'd only stay an hour, but it was more like an hour and a half. As we were leaving, Belle reminded me that I had said we'd run by Ben Franklin for some craft supplies. There is a toy store right next to Ben Franklin and next to that is a New Age-type bookstore and coffee shop. As we are parking, Belle asks if she can go into the toy store. We are already running late but I tell her, yes she can but only for a real quick look. (Which leads into another entry!)
So we go into Ben Franklin (we do stop to ride the motorcycle out front first, of course). Then just outside the front door, they had a display of artificial flowers for sale. Belle starts picking some out for Mommy and Daddy for Valentines Day. She then spies a bunch of daffodils. "These are for Mommy because they are her favorite!" They are but I was surprised she remembered. Anyway, she proudly carries them inside and, waving them announces to everyone that they are for her Mommy. There were two women at the checkout and Belle says "Hey! Ladies! These are for my Mommy!" They both smile and one woman says with great feeling, "you have a very lucky mommy!' And I don't really think she was referring to just the flowers.
Over the last almost five years, Belle and I have made numerous shopping trips to Ben Franklin together. Belle loves it, lots of crafts things! Gaga loves taking her and she likes to look at the yarn. We have been in together enough that there is one man who works in the yarn department who knows us by sight. (In fact, one time, when I was in there alone, he asked "Where's your sidekick?") So of course this evening I had to look at the yarn. Much to the amusement of other shoppers and the "yarn man" Belle states "Not the knitting stuff again! Every time we come to Ben Franklin, Gaga has to look at knitting stuff!"
We found some awesome new fabric that has the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz on it. We bought a small amount to make things for her dollhouse. She then needed to explain to the woman at the counter that it was for her dollhouse because the house is for Zeldaborn and Helgamine (from Nightmare Before Christmas) and she "doesn't do cutsey-whootsey".
We then go to the toy store as promised. I don't think there has been a day in the last 2 years at least, that Belle isn't at least some of the time, pretending to be some character from a book or movie. On this day, she was Elliot and I was Boog (the dear and the bear from Open Season). If one isn't familiar with the movie, there is a scene in which Elliott leads Boog on a distructive romp through a convience store. They make quiet a mess. So we walk into the toy store and Belle is looking around. She comes upon an employee sitting on the floor pricing some toys and announces "I'm Elliot. This is Boog (pointing at me). We're playing Open Season. But don't worry, we won't really tear up your store!" And then she takes off down the aisle and I follow without having an opportunity to explain to the poor woman. I look over my shoulder and see her with this "what just happened to me?" look on her face. I could have answered that in one word: "Belle."
The rest of this days' story is "Belle Takes on the Three Stooges".
