Someday I'll Laugh (bead up the nose)

Any day that starts out having to tell someone "Okay... don't freak out but...." ya know is gonna be interesting. That's the phrase I had to great Brad with this morning after having discovered Belle in a locked bathroom trying to dig a bead out of her nose by herself. Why was she doing this instead of just telling me? Well for that we must go back a bit....

Several weeks ago Moya had apparently shoved a piece of sponge like foam up her nose. She had tried to tell us but wasn't able to really articulate what she was talking about. So there it stayed for well over a week... closer to two really. She had had a cold and ear infection so we didn't think much of the runny nose. But on Saturday night I started to notice a smell coming from her nose. Sunday I investigated more and the smell was her snot and it smelled putrid. Like that smell they tell you to go to the doctor about if you have a wound that smells that way. So I thought 'okay I'll call the doctor monday.' Then we went to the park for Mother's Day (yes it was mother's day) and I happen to notice when Moya was laying on the grass something in her nose that doesn't look right. I look closer and it is definitely NOT bogies. So we decide, picnic over time to go to urgent care.

We go and they pull the sponge out and it's larger than a quarter. It was nasty. See picture bellow. Well then yesterday was Moya's follow up appointment to make sure her nose was okay. We go to her pediatrician and she looks and says that she sees something still up there and it's too far up that she isn't comfortable going after it herself. So she sends us next door to the ENT. They are very kind and work us in right away. The doctor pulls out what looks like a rotting slug from her nose.

Now on to this morning. Apparently last night Belle was goofying around in her room making fun of Moya (even though she wasn't in the room with her!) and placed a bead at the front of her nostril. She then sniffed and up it went. Well now she knows she's messed up but didn't want to tell me because she knew I'd get mad. So this morning she tried to get it out herself with tweezers and needles!!! Nut case kid! I bust her and she confesses. A trip to the same ENT and the bead was out no problem. And boy I gotta tell ya the ladies who worked at the front desk at the ENT sure thought it was hilarious that both my girls came in for the same thing less than 24 hours apart. :) I thought the lady who took the appointment on the phone was gonna die laughing. They gave Belle some all in good fun teasing and made sure I knew they were closed tomorrow (saturday). :)

And yes Belle did get in some trouble. I told her that yeah the bead up the nose was stupid and made me angry but what really upset me was her not just coming and telling me and instead shoving more dangerous things up her nose. I reminded her what I've always told her... tell me! Yeah I may be mad but I'll be more angry and hurt if she keeps it from me. Especially when it's health related.

Anyway... all is well and all noses are object free.
